Blueprints, books, calculations, charts, clippings, correspondence, technical drawings, and shop sketches, graphs, notes and typescript notebooks, patents, photograph album, photographs, placques, reports, tables, and graphs, all relating to Goddard's rocket research and testing work as well as his experimental work on liquid fuels for rocket propulsion. Goddard's technical notes are contained in a 23-volume set of typescript notebooks consisting of his records and notes on his experiments in developing the liquid-propelled rocket (August 1929-Fall 1943). These were typed by his wife Esther, after his death, from his original notes which she copied exactly, even when the meaning was "not quite clear." [The first eight volumes containing hundreds of photographs, graphs, and drawing were written in August 1929 after the widely publicized flight of July 17, 1929. Collectively they are Goddard's summary of his work with liquid fuels for rocket propulsion. Herein, he presents his earliest ideas which were frequently revised as his research progressed. The later volumes cover various tests conducted from July 28, 1937 to Oct. 10, 1941. Volumes VII-XVIII describe various tests conducted in New Mexico, 1934-1940.] The notebooks include: Vols. I-II: Report on the Development of Liquid-Propelled Rocket, August 1929, covering period from July 1921-July 1929; Vol. III: Work at Camp Devens, Massachusetts, Dec. 1929-June 1930; and. Rocket research carried on at Clark University, 1923-1933 and 1933-1934; Vol. VI: Work at Roswell, N.M., August 1930-July 1932, which was funded by the Daniel and Florence Guggenheim Foundation; [unnumbered volume]: Tests No. A1 and A14, Jan. 15, 1935 to Oct. 29, 1935--Flight Tests of 9" model, developing blast vanes, and gyroscopic control; Vol. IX: Tests No. L16 to L21, July 28, 1937 to Nobember 24, 1937; Vol. X: Tests No. L22 to L26, December 18, 1937 to March 6, 1938; Vol. XI: Tests No. L27 to L30, March 17, 1938 to August 9, 1938; Volume XII: Pump Tests; Vol. XIII: Tests No. P1 to P5k, January 6, 1939 to April 28, 1939; Vol. XIV: Tests No. P5 to P12, May 18, 1939 t0o August 4, 1939; Vol. XV: Test Nos. P13 and P14, November 18, 1939 and December 2, 1939; Vol. XVI: Test No. P15, February 9, 1940; Vol. XVII, Tests No. P16 to P23, March 21, 1940 to August 9, 1940; Vol XVIII, Tests No. P24 to P36, December 18, 1940 to October 10, 1941; Vol XIX: General Notes, 1934-1940; Vol. XX: Notes on Combustion Chambers, June 10, 1938 to December 5, 1939; Vols. XXI and XXII: Development of Device for Jet-Assisted Take-off for Airplanes, October 15, 1941 to January 9, 1943, Volume 1 & Volume 2; Vol. XXIII: Miscellaneous Notes: Part I -- 1933-1936 and Part II -- 1934-1942. These technical notes give details of flight tests, fuel tank construction, chambers, mountings, various adaaptions of a large fuel capacity rocket, varaious fuel. Experiments, pump designs, among other topics; only occasionally is information of a more personal nature recorded, such as Goddard's entry made follwing Col. Linbergh's vist of May 10-11, 1939. The Archive also includes: patents; correspondence between Charles W. Mansur and Henry G. Beauregard concerning Goddard's patent rights claimed by U.S. Navy; report on Goddard flight of Aug. 9, 1938 with letters to the National Aeronautic Association; posthumous material on commemorative activities, dedications, and other relevant publications and events, including correspondence with Goddard's 1969 workshop dedication. attendance information for the 1972 film "The Empty Frame"; copies of "Register to the Papers of Robert H. and Esther C. Goddard," by Terry A. Bragg (catalog of Goddard materials held by Clark University) and a presentation entitled "Robert H. Goddard: Accomplishments of the Roswell Years (1930-1941)" by F.C. Durant, III (prepared for the Seventh International History of Astronautics SLymposium of the International Academy of Astronautics, Oceober 1973, Baku, U.S.S.R.); copy of booklet entitled "Congressional Recognition of Goddard Rockwell and Space Museum, Rockwell, New Mexico With Tributes to Dr. Robert H. Goddard, Space Pioneer, 1882-1945" 101 pp.; cassette and video recordings of 1991 oral history with Lawrence Mansur, one of Goddard's associates during his early years in Rosewell; and NASA lunar rock and.
